How Free is Freewill?

It is a paradox that, on a microscopic level, the motion, direction and temperature of any given molecule of gas seems totally random and unpredictable, and yet, on a macroscopic level, the temperature, pressure and volume of that gas, enclosed in a container, obeys very precise laws.
Quantum events appear not only random but acausal, yet the intergalactic events composed of those quantum building blocks seem as smooth and regular as some orchestrated performance.
Consider the analogy of this paradox in relation to societies and history, composed of the actions and choices of countless individuals exercising their free wills.
